From the Floating Log at Frogmorton

He'd been going downhill since Weathertop,
He was half-way gone, and we'd thought he'd drop,
'Til Glorfindel showed up and took him over the ford.
Gandalf Greyhame said "Hello."
He said "Hey, G, where'd you go?"
Gandalf said "Frodo, I got some bad news and it's gonna hurt."

He said: "You know that Ring, well it can't stay here,
And Saruman's turned evil, I fear,
And we can't send it south to Minas Tirith, that's clear.
Frodo got scared, but said he'd go
To Mordor and give the Ring a throw
Gandalf said "Right on Frodo, I'll go with you myself."

"And when we get there the lights'll go out in Mordor
When we get there Barad-dur'll come tumbling down!"
But Gandalf fell into Shadow in deepest Moria
And Boromir thought the Ring could give him the crown.

So then Frodo lit out on his own,
Sam jumped in the river and he almost drowned.
Frodo pulled him into the boat and said "Sam, why'd you do it?"
Fellowship broken, the narrative split,
They met Gollum, which put Sam in a snit,
Big things were happening to their old gang, but they didn't know it.

Well, Gollum betrayed them, what a surprise,
Sam took the Ring, and tried it on for size.
Poor old Gollum didn't have many friends, and he'd just lost him one.
Gorbag thought there must be an Elf around
Sam followed him home, that's where he found
Frodo with all the things the Orcs had left him, that is, none.

Gollum followed them into Mordor
Slippin' through the Morgai, Sauron's back door.
Came upon a road too big for hobbits to make.
He looked through the cave-mouth at Sammath Naur,
Heard Frodo claim the Ring and said "This means war!"
Grabbed, bit, fell in, and he started a quake.

That's the night that the lights went out in Mordor.
That's the night Barad-dur came tumbling down.
The heroes of this tale are a little shorter
Than their buddy who ends up wearing the crown.

In the Shire things had changed while they'd been away,
Sharkey's Stalinists now held sway,
But Merry and Pippin soon set things right.
Frodo felt sad, had no interest in fame
Home from the war, his home wasn't the same.
He went Over Sea with some Elves and Gandalf the White.

That was the night that the lights went out in Mordor.
That was the night Barad-dur came tumbling down.
The heroes of this tale are a little shorter
Than their buddy who ends up wearing the crown. [repeat]
